ABOUT THE ROLE 

The Horticulturist will play a crucial role in our indoor vertical farm research and development facility, contributing to the cultivation of high quality crops in a controlled environment.  They will work closely with our Plant Biologist to develop new recipes and crop varieties.  As a Horticulturist, your primary duties will encompass:

  • Day to day activities – tasks in our micro farms require a significant amount of effort , often involving physical and repetitive tasks ie. seeding and a high cleaning standards.
  • Environmental monitoring – confirm that environmental conditions such as temperature, humidity and light levels are achieving optimal plant growth.
  • Collaborate – with the farm operations team to gain feedback on new recipes.
  • Data collection and analysis – assist in the collection and interpretation of digital data relating to plant growth, environmental conditions and crop yields.
  • Equipment maintenance – perform routine maintenance and calibration of equipment such as nutrient sensors, calibration tools and cameras to ensure efficient operation.
  • Research and development – stay informed about the latest developments in indoor farming techniques and technologies and contribute to research projects aimed at improving crop quality and yields.

The ideal applicant will possess: 
Qualifications/Experience:

  • Bachelor Degree in Horticulture, Agriculture or Plant Science is desirable.
  • Previous experience in Indoor Vertical Farming is preferred, but is not essential.
  • Experience with environmental monitoring systems and automated control systems. Our farms are fully automated and you will be required to use computers to control and operate our technology systems.

Required Qualities:

  • Outcome-driven with the capability to deliver results within a given time frame.
  • Proficiency in managing multiple projects simultaneously and prioritise tasks effectively
  • Excellent communication skills with a positive approach to engaging with internal stakeholders
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and public holidays as needed.
