About the role

Our dynamic Horticultural Team is seeking to appoint an experienced Senior Horticulturist to be based at the Australian Botanic Garden Mount Annan. The Senior Horticulturist develops and maintains the horticultural functions for an area of the Australian Botanic Garden Mount Annan including; undertaking regular area inspections, maintenance of associated plant and equipment, research and development of a diverse living collection, consultation between stakeholders on developments affecting the garden, performing a wide range of horticultural tasks, and the supervision and training of staff.

 

This is an exciting opportunity to join an organisation of passionate, world leading staff from the fields of science and horticulture.

 

About You

To excel in this role you will be highly self-motivated whilst being able to effectively manage staff and resources. You will be able to manage competing priorities to ensure tasks are completed to a schedule and at a high standard.

 

Employing horticultural best practices to maintain and improve the living collection in a manner that prioritises safety to the Horticultural team and the public will be key to this role.

 

Essential Requirements

· Horticultural trades certificate or equivalent experience with technical knowledge in horticulture and maintenance techniques.

· Ability to undertake fieldwork for extended periods and have the ability to lift and carry a minimum 15 kilos.

· Demonstrated ability in the maintenance and use of a wide range of horticultural plant and equipment.

· Demonstrated experience in the coordination, operational maintenance and development of a large park or garden.
