The Australian Botanic Garden Mount Annan is part of the larger Botanic Gardens of Sydney (BGoS). It is Australia’s largest Botanic Garden showcasing approximately 3000 species of Australian native plants and 30 hectares of endangered ecological woodlands. It is also home to the Australian PlantBank and The National Herbarium of New South Wales, both major scientific research and conservation centres focused on conserving the flora of NSW.

 

About the role

The iconic Australian Botanic Garden Mount Annan is seeking to appoint an experienced Supervisor to lead the Natural Areas and Open Spaces teams. This team collectively manages and conserves the 30 hectares of endangered ecological woodlands and curates the arboriculture collections, native grasslands and presentation lawns while collaborating with other teams for organisational success. This is an exciting opportunity to join a leading collaborative organisation with like-minded people passionate about conservation, horticulture, education and science.

 

About You

You must be a passionate and collaborative leader who is confident in managing human, financial and physical resources to ensure that agreed outcomes are achieved within time and on budget. To succeed in this role, you will also have experience providing technical advice to colleagues, management and external customers concerning bush regeneration, horticultural maintenance, and plant management strategies.

 

The successful applicant will have;

  • Degree or Certificate in Horticulture or Conservation and Land Management or an equivalent qualification
  • Proven experience in the coordination, operational maintenance, curation and development within a Botanic Garden or large public greenspaces to agreed standards and organisational goals.
  • Proven experience managing and developing work and maintenance programs and preparing complex reports.
  • Current driver’s licence with the ability to drive manual vehicles
  • Willingness to undertake fieldwork for extended periods
  • Have the ability to lift and carry a minimum of 15 kilos
