The role
Sydney’s iconic Botanic Gardens need hands-on horticultural care, and that’s where you come in! As a Horticultural Labourer, you’ll play a key role in maintaining and regenerating stunning landscapes and natural areas. From constructing and caring for horticultural displays to assisting with propagation and weed control, you’ll help keep the gardens thriving for visitors and future generations.

In this dynamic role, you’ll use and maintain horticultural machinery, ensure safety standards are met, and work as part of a passionate team. Whether it’s supporting conservation efforts or ensuring the smooth running of garden operations, your work will directly contribute to preserving these treasured green spaces.

What you will bring to the role

  • Hands-on experience in developing, constructing, and maintaining horticultural displays or conserving natural areas in parks or gardens.
  • Strong understanding of workplace health and safety policies, with the ability to implement safe work practices.
  • Proficiency in using and maintaining horticultural machinery and equipment to industry standards.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, managing tasks efficiently while adapting to changing priorities.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills to collaborate effectively and deliver high-quality horticultural outcomes.


What is an essential requirement:

  • Current driver’s licence and willingness to undertake fieldwork for extended periods of time and have the ability to lift and carry a minimum 15 kilos.
  • Ability to work outside of normal working hours and on weekends if required.
